The Buddhist saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated in the caves of these mountains.

Nepal alternative treks combined Tsum valley, Manaslu and Annapurna Circuit trekking to offer something different .We have designed this trip alternatively in better way. We take you not only to wilderness, off the beaten track and authentic Tibetan culture in Tsum but also get great opportunity to visit old Monasteries and high pass Larke la. After exploring these special areas, you will be taken to Nepal’s no. one popular route Annapurna circuit. This trip is the complex of high mountain pass, rocky and sloppy mountain range, along with the incredible valley, picturesque settlements of various ethnic communities residing alongside of the trail, sacred valley, and eight thousand peaks as Mt. Manaslu, Annapurna I and Mt. Dhaulagiri with many other snowcapped himalayas.

This trip will take you to explore highest elevated Tilicho lake, Thorong la pass and sacred hindu temple “Muktinath”. You will have great opportunity to view Tibetan plateau, Kaligandaki river and Kagbeni village.

Suggested Itinenary

Day 1 : Kathmandu arrival (1290m.)
Arriving in Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA), You will be greeted by Nepal alternative trek’s airport representative and transferee by private vehicle to hotel ( Hotel Utse or similar category ) on b/b plan.
In the evening, There will be organized a short introductory program with your guide/porters and guide will give you a brief about the trip. He also will check your trekking equipments to make sure that you are ready for it !

Day 2 : Kathmandu – Arughat –Sotikhola (750m./)8 hrs drive
Early morning we leave Kathmandu for our trek to Tsum valley and Manaslu by
Local bus/jeep 6 hours to Arughat through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. We drive continue to Sotikhola 2 hours then stay overnight in Soti Khola-river at lodge. B+L+D

Day 3: Soti Khola -Machha Khola (890m.) 6 hrs
We head to Machha Khola today. The trail descends slowly until we climb again to mountain ridge to Almara. Pass the forest trail to arrive at Riden Gaon. The valley here cuts into another side of the river to enter Budhi Gandaki. At Lambesi, the trail follows down to the sandy riverbed of Budhi Gandaki. We stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 4: Machha Khola –Jagat (1990m.) 5 hrs
We head continue Jagat. In the beginning we cross Machha River and head upstream along the river’s edge. After crossing Khola besi, there is a hot spring called “Tatopani”. The trail follows forested area after this toward Doban. Below Doban, there is a huge rapid at Budhi Gandaki. As the elevation increases, the rapids and the scenery undergoes a complete transformation. Stay overnight there at lodge. B+L+D

Day 5: Jagat-Chisopani (2100m.) 5 hrs
Trek to Chisopani and stay overnight there at lodge. B+L+D

Day 6: Chisopani- Chumling (Lower Tsum) ( 2363 m.) 4 hrs
We take the trail up through Philim and head up over a ridge that leads to Chumling. We stay overnight at Chumling at Lodge. B+L+D

Day 7: Chumling – Chhokangparo (Upper Tsum) (3010 m.) 6 hrs
we continue heading to Chhokangparo.Chhekamparo is a village situated on flat land and made up of two settlements Chhekam and Paro. From the valley, the Ganesh Himal range can be seen directly to the south where it provides spectacular views of the Baudha and Himal chuli peaks to the south-west. Some households in this village practice polyandry. Stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 8: Chhokangparo – Nile/Chhule (3361 m.) 6 hrs
From Chhokangparo we trek to Nile/ Chulle. This is the last village heading north in the upper Tsum Valley. Nile is on the western, sun-side of the Shiar Khola, about 20 minutes walk across from Chhule.
On the way we pass the Piren Phu cave. Piren Phu (pigeon cave) is one of the most sacred caves in the Tsum valley. It is located at the foot of a rugged cliff near the village of Burji. Milarepa, the famous Tibetan saint, was believed to have meditated here. There are two separate gumbas attached to the rocky cave. Richly painted Buddhist murals, excellent artistic scripts carved on stones, long prayer flags and significant Buddhists paper scripts make this cave one of the most important socio-cultural asset in the valley.Beautiful views can be had of the Shiar Khola, Rachen Gumba, the mountains and settlements amidst vast agricultural land. Stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 9: Excursion day to Mu Gompa ( 4060 m.) 4 hrs
It is the largest monastery in the region. Mu Gumba is located at the highest and farthest point in the Tsum valley. The monastery houses religious books, including Kangyur, a life sized statue of Avalokiteshwara, and images of Guru Padmasambhava and Tara.
Dephyudonma Gumba is one of the oldest monasteries in the Tsum Valley and is situated in the rugged mountains, it is 2 hours walk from the village of Chhule and Nile. The history of this monastery is directly associated with the dawn of Buddhism in the valley. The monastery is run by Lama Serap of Nile Ladrang from the Kangin sect. There are a few campsites and drinking water facilities. Stay there overnight at Lodge. B+L+D

Day 10: Nile-Chhokangparo (3010 m) 5 hrs
The trail leads us to Chhokangparo . The nunnery is situated in the Shiar Khola Valley in the foothills of the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. Rachen Gumba was established in the year 1905 AD and is one of the largest nunneries in the Tsum valley. It houses nuns belonging to the Ngak-pa sect, which does not allow animal slaughter. The nunnery houses one thousand clay, molded statues of Avalokiteshwara, a brightly colored, carved throne and pillar, and a large prayer wheel. The interior is richly painted with murals about Buddhism and its history. Stay there overnight at Lodge. B+L+D

Day 11: :Chhokangparo-Lakuwa (2240 m.) 5 hrs
We trek down to Lokuwa (2240m./6339ft.) 5 hours walking. We stay overnight there at Lodge. B+L+D

Day 12: Lakuwa-Deng ( 1800m.) 6 hrs
We trek to Deng. Deng is tiny village after crossing a bamboo forest and Deng Khola then stay overnight there at lodge. B+L+D

Day 13: Deng – Namrung ( 2660m.) 5 hrs
The trail leads us to Namrung. After breakfast we cross Budhi Gandaki again and climb up, pass a waterfall, cross a stream, and continue to climb ahead to Shringi Khola; cross it and reach Ghap (Tsak) and continue walk to Namrung. Stay overnight there at lodge. B+L+D

Day 14: Namrung-Samagaun ( 3360m.) 5 hrs
We head to Sama Gaun. We follow to Nupri region; the trail passes Barcham and crosses Hinan Khola and reaches to Sho. The trail then follows to Lho and drops down across Damonan Khola. Ascend again to a plateau at Shya. Crossing a ridge the trail descends onto a rock – strewn moraine and goes onto a ridge overlooking pastures and fields of Samagaon. The Sama Gompa is nestled against a wooded moraine at the end of the valley. We stay overnight there at lodge. B+L+D

Day 15: SamaGaun-Explore Pungen Gompa
Take a short walk to Pungen gompa (monastery) and return. We will explore tibetan community, Buddhist chanting and fabulous view of Manaslu. Stay overnight at same lodge. B+L+D

Day 16: Sama Gaun-Samdo ( 3780 m.) 4 hrs
We trek to Samdo. Descend to Budhi Gandaki and to Manaslu Base Camp. The Larkya La trail passes several Mani walls and reaches Kermo Kharka. The trail then climbs steeply to find Samdo nestled behind a ridge. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 17: Acclimatization day
We will have acclimatization day in Samdo. B+L+D

Day 18: Samdo – Larkya Rest House (4200m.) 5 hrs
We trek to Larkya rest house. We go further on to Larkya La. The trail forwards and climbs in and out of the gorge and reaches the only shelter on the route to the pass, Larkya Rest House. Stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 19: Larkya Rest House – Larkya La – Bimtang (3200m.) 8 hrs
We trek to Bimtang. Today you have very early breakfast and start untimely. The trail reaches at the top of the moraine at 4,700m. (15,420ft) and climbs steeply to the pass at 5,135m. (16,847ft). Then the trail descends to Bimtang (” Plain of Sand” in Tibetan Language). This huge valley surrounded by high peaks. We stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 20: Bimtang-Tilje ( 2300m.) 6 hrs
We trek down to Tilje. The trek descends to Dudh Khola and reaches Gho crossing Pine and Rhododendron forests. At the foot of the valley, part of Lamjung Peak above the Marsyangdi valley comes into sight. The trail continues to Tilje villages. Stay there overnight at lodge.

Day 21: Tilje –Chame ( 2710m.) 6 hrs
You pass by fields of corn, barley and potatoes on your way through small villages of Khorte and Karte and after 5-6 hours of a pleasant walk, you arrive at Dharapani and continue to Chame. Stay overnight at a lodge. B+L+D

Day 22: Chame-Dukur Pokhari-Pisang ( 3400m.) 5 hrs
A steep, narrow path through a very dense forest will bring you to the dramatic curved rock face, rising 1500m from the river. As the trail opens up, you will be surrounded by majestic Himalayan Peaks. After 5 hours walking through these amazing sites you will reach Pisang then stay there overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 23: Pisang-Upper Pisang- Ngawal-Manang ( 3500m.) 4 hrs
Enter the upper Manang region, where you will notice a contrast with the landscape and vegetation. The cold, dry climate creates a much harsher environment. Incredible views of the towering Himalayan Peaks. After walking 4 hours walking, you will reach Manang then stay there overnight at lodge.B+L+D

Day 24: Manang- Siri Kharka/Khangsar Village (3700 m.). 4 hrs.
After acclimatized at Manang we continue our adventure for Tilicho Lake, from Manang one heads out through the western gates and then one follows the path down to the river. After crossing the the Khangsar Khola on the bridge below Khangsar and ascend the slope to the village, a village still in the old Tibetan style and which is also known as last village of Nepal. Stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 25: Khangsar village- Tilicho Base Camp (4200 m.) 5 hrs.
Continue from Khangsar on a large path. Pass a Gompa (monastery). The route ahead goes on a recently constructed path up towards a high ridge. At one point is an intersection. One path maintains the altitude, traversing the slopes towards a place where the valley is narrow; the other continues to ascend towards the line of the ridge. The former is the old path, and is much more difficult as it goes on really steep screed; the latter is the new path that goes a completely different way. Continue along the new path, reach a high crest, and descend on switch backs carved out through the screed slopes to a side valley of the main valley. At its bottom is a brook. On the other side of it is a building known as Tilicho Base Camp at elevation of 4200 meters. Stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 26: Khangsar village- Tilicho Lake (5200 m.) and back down to Tilicho Base Camp (4200 m.) 6 hrs.
Today our journey start early in the morning around 6 AM as we trying to avoid the wind. From Base camp to the Tilicho lake takes another 3-4 hours. Tilicho Lake is a cold barren place in the afternoon and claimed as highest lake of the world. After we spend some time around Tilicho Lake we will return same way back to Base Camp as there are no any accommodation facilities at Tilicho Lake area. Stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 27: Khangsar village-Yak Kharka (4000 m.) 5 hrs.
Returning from Base camp you can keep high and follow a track 400meters or so above Khangsar village passing through the ruins of old Khangsar and follow an unmarked trail which will lead you around and down to cross the river on an old log bridge between Gumsang and Yak Kharka. Stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 28: Yak Kharka-Lader-Throng Phedi ( 4600m.) 3-4 hrs
Make your way to the village of Throng Phedi (4.600 m/15,180 ft.). After 3-4 hours of trekking, you will reach this small, busy settlement which caters to both trekkers and climbers. It is used as a base camp as well as the starting point for the climb up to the famous pass – Throng La. Stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D

Day 29: Throng Phedi-Throng La Pass-Muktinath (3800m.) 9 hrs
An early start is important to begin a long day’s trek over the pass. Crossing the famous Throng La pass {5,416m/17872 ft} will be an unforgettable experience. Breathtaking scenes of the high Himalayan peaks are presented from both the trail and the summit of the pass. After walking 9 hours, stay overnight at Muktinath at lodge. B+L+D

Day 30: Muktinath-Ekle bhatti-Jomsom ( 2670m.) 5 hrs
Muktinath is an important pilgrimage place for both Hindus and Buddhists. You will visit a Vishnu Temple and Gompa in morning. The trail today is quite surreal as you trek along a plateau above the Kali Gandaki, the world`s deepest gorge. We trek 5 hours to Jomsom and stay overnight at lodge. B+L+D
In the afternoon, we can visit beautiful village Marpha as day trip.

Day 31: Jomsom-Pokhara by flight ( 20 minutes)
Take a morning flight to Pokhara with beautiful scenic Mountain View as Mt. Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, Tilicho peak, Annapurna range, Dhampus peak, Annapurna south, Nilgiri, Fishtail, Annapurna south and many more. Stay overnight at selected hotel in Pokhara ( Hotel Trekkers inn or similar category) on b/b basis.

Day 32: Pokhara-Kathmandu ( 6 hrs drive)
After having breakfast, drive to Kathmandu by tourists bus. Stay overnight at selected hotel ( Hotel Utse or similar category) in Kathmandu.

Day 33: Final Departure
Nepal alternative treks will transfer to International airport by private vehicle.
